With the lockdown going strong, many of us are finding a lot of free time. This social distancing duration can be utilized in a fun and productive way. 1. Newton

Released in 2017, in Newton, we see a government official played by Rajkummar Rao, who is tasked with conducting an election polling at a Naxalite area. He is faced with many difficulties, which all try to stop him from conducting the polling. Some of the problems he faces are enough to scare other men away. But he surges on to get his job done efficiently and honestly. This movie represents how ordinary people can rise up to do extraordinary things. It has some commendable performances by Rajkummar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi. It is truly a beacon of hope in times when people do not easily trust government officials. Watch it to feel the motivation of an honest man. Furthermore, this movie also won a National Film Award for the Best Feature Film in Hindi category.

2. Manjhi – The Mountain Man

Manjhi – The Mountain Man released in 2015 and got superb accolades. Based on the real-life story of Dashrath Majhi, a poor labourer in a small village in Bihar. The village is obstructed by a mountain and villagers have to either climb it or take a longer route around it to reach the nearest medical centre. Manjhi loses his wife while trying to cross this mountain. This unfortunate accident swerves him into making a path through the mountain himself. He ends up creating a 30 ft wide and 360 ft long path using only a chisel and hammer. Thus, earning him the title of The Mountain Man. Watch this motivational movie to see Nawauddin Siddiqui’s brilliant acting and a heart-touching tale of determination and perseverance.

3. Article 15

A 2019 release, which won many awards, Article 15 sees Ayushmann Khurrana play an IPS officer. The film deals with Article 15 of the Indian Constitution, which prohibits any discrimination among individuals on the basis of religion, race, caste, sex or birthplace. It is loosely based on some true events. It is definitely a must-watch for the message it carries – which is, that honest work does pay off at some point in time. So, remain honest in your work and do it diligently.

4. Neerja

Neerja was a 2016 release, telling the real-life story of the courageous Neerja Bhanot. She sacrificed her life while trying to protect the lives of 359 passengers on board Pan Am flight 73 which was hijacked in 1986. A selfless story of a brave girl who put her duty above her own life. Sonam Kapoor did a commendable job playing the late Neerja on screen. Watch this motivational movie for an inspiration to push yourself to do your best in life.

5. The Pursuit of Happyness

The Pursuit of Happyness is a 2006 biographical movie. Will Smith plays Chris Gardner, a salesman who has to take care of his little son, while he is also homeless and trying to make ends meet. At this juncture, he gets the opportunity to intern as a stockbroker at a prestigious stock firm. He endures many hardships but finally has a happy ending as he lands himself a job as a stockbroker and can finally see his pursuit of a happy life come to reality. A heart touching story, this film will motivate you to never give up, no matter how tough the circumstances. It will surely leave you with a teary eye at the end!
