How to Check EPF Balance? | Step by Step Tutorial

The Employee Provident Fund provides financial stability for employees during their retirement. Both employee and employer contribute to this scheme. EPF is mandatory for all companies above 20 employees. EPFs for one month are due on the 15th of the following month. The deadline for submitting your employee’s EPF for one month is the 15th of the following month. It’s taxing to check your EPF balance on the EPF website. If you manage to view your EPF balance, you still have to download your passbook from another website.

And, also the government has made the UMANG app for these purposes, but that too lags a lot. We’ll elucidate other effortless methods also for everyone to check their EPF balance in under one minute. These methods have almost no prerequisites, but for each one of them, it is critical to have your UAN activated.

Check EPF balance with the following methods:

Before we jump into explaining these methods, it is vital that you have your UAN activated and ready to use!

1. Regular SMS from the UAN portal

This method involves using your UAN to register yourself at the UAN portal. Here you’ll have to provide your details such as email ID, phone number, etc. Within 45 days of registering, you will start receiving regular SMSs regarding your EPF balance. This is probably the easiest way to check your EPF balance as it involves no missed calls or sending SMS.

2. EPF Passbook

This method is quite similar to checking your bank account passbook. Simply go to this link, sign in using your UAN, go to your EPF number, and download the PDF file. And you’re done! This method is easy because this is a separate website from the UAN portal, and even in case of crashes, this link will stay active.

3. Check EPF balance via missed call

This is a very simple method. Just give a missed call to 01122901406 from your UAN registered mobile number. Then you will receive an SMS with your UAN, KYC status, last EPF contribution, and PF balance. For more details, click here.

4. EPF Checking through the mobile app

The UMANG app (Unified Mobile App for New Governance) was released by the Government for the purpose of providing EPF information to individuals. Just download the UMANG app from the App Store/Play Store and log in to check your EPF balance.

5. EPF Checking through SMS

EPF Checking can also be done by sending an SMS to 7738299899. The SMS text should be EPFOHO <SPACE> UAN <SPACE> ENG if you want the SMS in English. You can change the SMS language just by changing the last three letters. For example, EPFOHO UAN MAR gives you an SMS in Marathi.
