The Big Advantage For Women Entrepreneurs In India

Success stories of women entrepreneurs in India

India has become a hub for growing commerce day by day. Women entrepreneurs in India have left no stone unturned to make the most of their potential despite lack of resources or lack of proper and formal education. They have exposed their potential in the male-dominated environment with almost no support from anywhere. In all successful business ventures, what we see is that the business product should have a unique selling proposition. Without this, the ventures often fail. Take an example of OYO which has a unique concept of “online aggregator of budget hotels”.

Being a woman is the unique selling proposition of a woman. More and more of them are coming out of their shackles and are great examples of women empowerment. Many have carved a niche for themselves and soared higher and higher despite facing challenges and struggles. They have made their way to the top of the list by sheer grit and determination. We share the stories of three successful women entrepreneurs. They have proven to the world that if you are focused and passionate, everything will fall into place. You can rise above all gender discrimination and bias.

Asha Vaghel – AKA VAN AUNTY, Mumbai

She hails from Mumbai. Not long back, she used to drop and pick her 2 kids from school on her husband’s scooter. But her happy life turned into a nightmare. Her husband suffered huge losses in his business and also got a paralytic attack.

Her whole life turned upside down but she did not lose courage and continued to struggle. She sold her house and repaid the loans of her husband and started off a new chapter of her life.  Later, She was asked by the women of her neighbourhood if she could help with their kids’ school transportation as well. She had to drop their children as well to the school in exchange of some monthly amount. It was great financial support for her.

Eventually, she learned to drive a van. She applied for the loan of 1 lakh which she eventually got through with initial difficulties. Life was coming back on track but her misfortune struck her again and her husband got a heart attack. Her son who was in high school then had to leave his studies for financial support. Once again, she rose against all odds and continued to work with grit and determination. Now, she is the proud owner of 5 vans and 2 mini busses. They drop and pick up some 500 children to and from the school in a safe and loving atmosphere. She is fondly remembered as Van Aunty.

Anita Kadam â€“ SAMINI LADY BOUNCERS, Pune

She started off her business with a beauty parlour and used to go to events in clubs and restaurants. That is when she discovered that women would often feel uncomfortable in the presence of male bouncers and she thought of the concept of female bouncers.

She soon worked upon this unique idea. She started off with 5 women and the number soon rose to 50 women. They were imparted with training for self-defence and also some communication skills.

They also received some management training as well and now they manage at least 20 events in a month. It is a very unconventional career and the families of these women were initially hesitant to send them in for late night events. But she went to their parents and convinced them that they could defend themselves in case of any untoward incident.

Archana Singh – 7th SIN, Bengaluru

Archana Singh with her 7th Sin Team

First of its kind in Asia, her 7th SIN, all women food truck brand, is a unique concept that has become very successful. Being an all-women brand is their USP which has caught the attention of media and customers as well. There are 7 women on the truck and they cook, serve and drive as well.

Apart from that they also look after the accounts and management of the company. The best part is that they work for 6 days a week and on the 7th day they go to feed healthy food to poor children.

So, these women of substance are a constant source of inspiration to other women entrepreneurs. Their life motivates women to rise above all odds and circumstantial difficulties and rule the world. They are the epitome of women empowerment and show the ability of women to enjoy their rights to control and benefit from the resources.
