Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship Program Explained

This blog is specifically for the students who are from the Science stream and want to pursue higher education. It is applicable for all the students who have graduated with a Science major, like Engineering, Bachelors Degree in Science or a Masters Degree. Good news for all such students who will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 80,000 under the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship-Program. Along with the same, students will also receive an annual allowance of Rs. 200,000 for international travelling.

India has always been in the talks for being inclined towards quality academics. The student’s of the country are critically acclaimed worldwide for their mathematical and programming skills. The nation is only lacking in innovation and research skills.

To address the same problem, the Prime Minister of India has brought in this kind of a Research Fellowship Program. Also, this program is going to benefit those bright students who are academically strong but had to face a setback due to financial or social circumstances. 

All such bright minds will now benefit from such a program to complete their PhD or research studies.

What all you need to know about the Research Fellowship Program?

Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship will commence from May 2019 and it will run for the next three years. Under this program, 3000 seats will be available for the students who can opt for the premium institutes of the country and complete their higher education.

Each year 1000 such students will get the golden opportunity to fulfil their educational dreams.

What are the eligibility criteria for the same?

Let’s breakdown the eligibility criteria for the program in two halves.

The first half will cover the students from the top colleges of the country, such as IIT, IISC, NIT and IISR. Students passing out from these esteemed institutions and having an overall CGPA of 8+ are directly eligible for the fellowship program.

The second half is for the students who have done or are doing their education from other government recognized institutes or colleges. Along with this, he/she has to have an average CGPA of 8+ without any backlogs. Also, keep in mind that your GATE score should be above 750+.

The students who have enrolled themselves for a Masters Degree in IIT, NIT, IISR, or IISC through GATE and have a first-semester CGPA above 8+, are also eligible for the program.

How to apply and from when will the application forms be available?

The application process is simple and straight forward. All students have to do is visit: www.pmrf.in and enrol themselves with their educational details and everything else the research fellowship program wants to know from them.

Also, students have to mention the respective courses and degrees they are looking for to complete their Masters or PhD. Every other information is widely available on the website.

Student’s submission will go through a thorough verification and only after that will a student be selected for the program.

What will be the payment schedule?

Student’s undergoing their PhD program will receive a sum of Rs. 70,000 per month for the first two years. On the third year, the amount will increase to Rs. 75,000 per month. For the 4th and 5th year, students will receive Rs. 80,000 per month. On average a student will receive Rs. 75,000 per month.
