A ₹5 packet of ParleG
But how is Parle-G still just ₹5 when everything else is getting expensive?
ParleG is using something called “Shrinklation.”
1994: You could get a 100gm ParleG biscuit packet for ₹4.
2008: It weighed 92.5 gms.
2009: 88 gms.
2021: The price was increased from ₹4 to ₹5, but the weight dropped to 55 gms.
Today, if you buy ₹5 ParleG, you’ll get just 50 gms of biscuits.
But why is ParleG not leaving the ₹5 price bracket?
It’s because of “consumer psychology.”
₹5 and ₹10 are magic numbers since they show affordability.
Many FMCG companies sell their products in these price brackets to attract customers.
But with rising inflation, ₹10 and ₹20 will become the new magic numbers.
By the way, one thing is and will always be free.
