Lost your driving licence and wondering what to do next?
Don’t worry, you’re not alone — and getting a duplicate driving licence is much easier than you think. Thanks to the Parivahan portal, you can apply for a duplicate DL straight from your phone, without visiting any office or agent.
This blog is part of Tutorial Tuesday (Episode 22) by Labour Law Advisor, where we break down useful digital processes to make you more jagruk — just like in our previous 21 episodes.
Let’s walk you through the full process step by step.
Step 1: Open the Parivahan portal
Visit the official site: https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/
Once the homepage loads, scroll to find the ‘Online Services’ section and click on ‘Driving License Related Services’.
Step 2: Select your state
Choose the state where your driving licence was originally issued.
Step 3: Choose ‘Issue of Duplicate DL’
Under the ‘Driving Licence’ section, select the option for ‘Issue of Duplicate DL’ from the Contactless License Services.
Step 4: Enter your details
You’ll need to provide the following:
- Original driving licence number
- Date of birth
- Captcha code
Step 5: Enter your email and blood group
These details are required for verification purposes. Make sure they are accurate.
Step 6: Aadhaar authentication
Link your Aadhaar number and verify it using the OTP sent to your mobile. Once verified, your basic details will autofill.
Step 7: Mention the reason and accept declarations
Select ‘Lost’ as the reason for applying for a duplicate DL and briefly explain how you lost it. Then, carefully read and accept the declarations.
Step 8: Upload required documents
Since your licence is lost, you’ll need:
- FIR copy or a police complaint regarding the lost licence
- A notarized affidavit confirming the loss
Make sure to upload clear and valid documents.
Step 9: Pay the application fee
Complete the process by paying the fee online using UPI, debit card, or net banking.
Step 10: Track your application
Once done, your application will be processed. You can check the status by going to the ‘Application Status’ section on the Parivahan homepage.
Your new driving licence will be delivered to your home in a couple of weeks — no test, no agents, and no paperwork hassles.
