Correct Date Of Birth On UAN Portal Yet PF Claim Rejected

The EPFO brought about some new changes in its rules and regulations. It suddenly stopped the application of offline PF withdrawal claims. All PF claims will have to be made online now. It also has different rules for date of birth correction. If the date of birth correction is for less than one year then it accepts your Aadhaar card as proof. But if the correction is for over a year then it asks for either your birth certificate or board exam mark sheet or passport as a proof. In such circumstances, the EPFO will not accept your driving license, Aadhaar or PAN card as proof. But what if one has given their correct date of birth yet there was a mistake from the EPFO?

Due to the wrong date of birth, the EPFO rejects PF claims of employees. This makes it difficult for the lower-income strata of the society who in most cases do not have such valid documents. And in the time of need when they urgently require their PF money, they are unable to get it.

Correct date of birth but PF claim rejected

We came across the case of Jitendra who left his employment on 1st December 2018. Jitendra first tried for an offline PF claim submission which the EPFO did not accept. Thus, he tried for an online PF claim submission. But upon trying, he could activate his UAN, even if he input his correct date of birth. Upon contacting his employer regarding this, he came to know that his date of birth has been incorrectly submitted as 1957 instead of 1992.

So we investigated this matter. Luckily, we had records of many years saved for Jitendra’s firm. Before the PF unified portal came to exist, the EPFO would generate challans electronically. Thus, whenever a new employer joined the firm, his details would be sent to the EPFO. So we took out those records and found that we had correctly submitted his date of birth as 1992.

EPFO Error?

Upon checking the records we saw that the person above Jitendra was Govind RamGoyal. Thus, Govind’s date of birth and date of joining had been mistakenly submitted in PF records as Jitendra’s date of birth and date of joining. But whose fault was it?

Thus, the data submission by the employer and us was correct. Somewhere the error occurred on the EPFO’s end. Hence, it is the EPFO’s fault, yet Jitendra is unable to claim his hard earned PF money.

Hence, it is our duty to raise a voice against this injustice and write to the Labour Minister, the Labour Ministry and the EPFO to make the date of correction an easier process.
