Free LPG Insurance Worth Coverage Premium Of Rs 50 lakh

Hardly anyone is aware of the fact that LPG subscription comes with free insurance worth a coverage premium of Rs 50 lakh. This insurance doesn’t require you to pay for the policy. This makes it an entirely FREE insurance policy. So in case of an LPG cylinder blast incident, you should be well aware of how much insurance amount you can claim. Thereby it will protect you from undergoing a complete loss.

According to a few news articles, there have been no insurance claims for such an incident in the past 25 years. However, there were several incident reports stating LPG blasts which converted into a major fire outbreak. Having little or no knowledge about this specific insurance made consumers sit back without claiming the coverage against the damage. Thus, it becomes vitally important to share this knowledge and raise awareness.

Energy companies are reluctant to publicly share information about this insurance. Also, when few news agencies tried asking the LPG companies regarding the same, it was found that half of their employees as well didn’t have an extensive idea.

What is Free LPG Insurance?

LPG insurance is third-party insurance which all the oil major companies provide. It is also known as PLC or Public Liability Policy on which you will get coverage of the said insurance. Energy giants like IOCL, HPCL, and BPCL all have taken this insurance from United Insurance Company Ltd. The company covers consumers in case of an LPG blast and this includes mainly three things:

  • In the case of death of a person (Personal Accident), each person will receive Rs 5 lakh per incident.
  • Medical expenses for the injuries which may happen from an LPG blast accident. For this Rs 1 lakh is allocated per person and Rs 25,000 is given per person for immediate relief. The maximum claim amount here can be Rs 15 lakh.
  • Damage to your property is also covered under this insurance, but to claim that an assessor visits your house and then only decides the cover amount. The claim amount here is up to Rs 1 lakh, but keep in mind that your property should be properly registered and all the LPG subscription documents should be ready with you.

The maximum liability that the energy companies can provide is limited to Rs 50 lakh per event. This also depends on the number of people involved, wherein per person can receive a maximum claim amount of Rs 10 lakh.

How To Claim Free LPG Insurance Amount?

  • File a case reporting the LPG accident at your local Police Station.
  • Inform your Gas Distributor of the incident with an attachment of the Police Report as well. It is the Gas Distributor’s duty to report the incident to the oil company so that they can make further arrangements.
  • In the case of property damage, the oil company send a team of officials to the location to assess the damage and set an amount for coverage.
  • To claim coverage in case of death, the oil company needs the death certificate and post mortem report for the person affected.
  • In the case of medical injuries, the oil company will provide you with the necessary coverage once they receive the copies of your medical bills and prescriptions along with your ID cards.
  • Make sure you check the ISI mark on the gas cylinder at the time of delivery. If the LPG cylinder is not an ISI one, then the oil company will refuse from taking any responsibilities.
